Natural Nurturing

It all started with a humble Guava plant.

Growing up in a very traditional and old-fashioned family, I have grown accustomed to natural health practices and remedies. My dad's family are such firm-believers in the healing powers of nature. For every kind of illness, the number one go-to medicine was the very humble healing Guava or bayabas plant.

My dad brought this practice with him even in his medical practice in the US. He'd persistently grow Guava plants, boil them, and have patients who are long-suffering from skin diseases bathe in them. Despite years and years of using steroidal/corticosteriods, only nature was able to heal them.

As a child, I was always the hyperactive one. Playing in the streets with the boys-running around and going on adventures. With hyperactive kids with an even more hyperactive imagination, accidents were bound to happen and I always took on the role of the medic-ordering the younger boys to pick Guava leaves from nearby plants. I would chew these and spread them on their wounds, explaining to them that this would prevent infection, nevermind that there's spit in it (hey, saliva has healing properties too!).

I grew up being very active in sports and healthy practices such as yoga, pilates, and strength training/conditioning. In college, I joined the women's varsity football team and started practicing a better and healthier lifestyle. To endure long hours of training and running under the heat, rain, and sometimes challenging physical conditions, I would take in "green drinks" to boost energy and stamina, and of course, keep my ever so voracious appetite at bay (since you can't for a certain period before training).

Pregnancy and motherhood made me even more conscious of my lifestyle and diet. I regularly take green smoothies to stay healthy and fight fatigue despite the sleepless night and demands of hands-on parenting, running a business, and a regular 9-5 corporate job. I am also passing up this practice to my son, who aside from breastfeeding at 8 months, is consuming organic vegetables and meat that I prepare.

With this blog, I aim to share my experiences and journey as I go back to our roots and re-discover the magical wonders nature has to offer-from organic diets, natural healing, eco-friendly practices, and practicing a natural lifestyle. I want to encourage and influence others to consider a healthy lifestyle and re-discover nature and her amazing healing abilities.

I'm no supermom but by practicing a green lifestyle, we can go super in life!
